After 28 1/2 years of working at Queen Anne’s Metropolitan Market, Kent Gorham (left) retired Feb. 6 amid farewells from scores of his fellow workers, including the market CEO Terry Halverson (right). The party included lunch, with cake, for employees saying goodbye — and for anyone else who happened to be in the store around noon.
Gorham started work on Sept. 30, 1985, in maintenance at Metropolitan Market’s store on the top of Queen Anne (formerly a Thriftway) and was known by many of the thousands of shoppers who came through its doors over the years. He moved to the lower Queen Anne location (100 Mercer St.) when the upper Queen Anne store closed in June 2012.
He has told co-workers, “You are my family.”
