On Sunday, May 4, more than 500 people of all ages will carry up to 5 gallons of water for 5 kilometers for CARRY 5 Walk at Seattle Center. Five kilometers is the average walk made by women and children in poor countries who lack access to clean, convenient water supplies.
The event, sponsored by Seattle-based nonprofit Water1st International, is open to all. Registration opens at noon, and the walk begins at 1 p.m. at Seattle Center’s International Fountain. Registration is $10 per person (prior to Saturday, May 4); children age 5 and under are free.
Those interested can register at www.carry5.org or by calling (206) 297-3024. Walk-in registration is also available at $20 per person.
Since 2005, Water 1st has completed 946 water projects in Ethiopia, Bangladesh, India and Honduras, providing permanent solutions to their water and sanitation needs. For more information, visit www.water1st.org.
