The Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF, 305 Harrison St.) has raised nearly $340,000 to reopen the former Egyptian Theatre (801 E. Pine St.) as the SIFF Cinema Egyptian by Oct. 1. Match offers from two anonymous philanthropists helped SIFF to exceed its $300,000 campaign goal.

The organization secured a lease for the Capitol Hill venue and subsequently launched a fundraising campaign to raise funds for the necessary improvements and operational costs to get started.

The donations will go toward necessities to reopen the theatre:

Critical repairs —Electrical, plumbing, ventilations and the exterior marquee;

Equipment — Projector, server and computers for the projection booth;

Operating costs, cleaning, maintenance and staffing; and

Improvements to the theater’s interiors and sound system.
