Viking Days takes over the Nordic Heritage Museum (3014 N.W. 67th St.) this weekend, with events happening from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17.
Viking Days kicks off with the Run Like a Viking 5K, at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Golden Gardens Park (8498 Seaview Place N.W.). Runners, walkers, children and dogs are encouraged to dress in Viking costumes.
Other highlights include the Swedish pancake breakfast on both days, from 9 a.m. to noon; a salmon barbecue on Saturday, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.; a raffle drawing on Sunday at 4 p.m.; and musical entertainment throughout both days on the Valhalla Beer Garden Stage.
Admission to the Museum is free during Viking Days, so guests can investigate the permanent collection and “Danish Modern: Design for Living.”
Last year, the event drew more than 5,000 visitors. Though some guests travel from afar, Viking Days is very much a Ballard activity and has been for 31 years.
