The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is closing eastbound Mercer Street and southbound Fifth Avenue North this Saturday, Feb. 8, to Monday, Feb. 10.
Beginning the morning of Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4 a.m. through Monday, Feb. 10, at 5 a.m., eastbound Mercer Street between Fifth and Ninth avenues North, and southbound Fifth Avenue North between Roy and Mercer streets will fully close to traffic for demolition of the old SR 99 bridge footings along Mercer Street and utility work beneath the roadway.
During the closure:
•Travelers heading east from Fifth Avenue North should take Harrison Street to •Travelers heading south on Fifth Avenue North will detour to westbound Roy Street and Fourth Avenue North to reconnect with Fifth Avenue via eastbound Mercer Street.
•The sidewalk on Mercer Street will also close between Fifth and Dexter avenues North. Pedestrians will detour to Broad Street.
•Mercer Street between Broad Street and Interstate 5, Broad Street, Dexter Avenue North, state Route 99 and the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street will remain open during the weekend work.
Early warning signs will be available in advance of the Mercer Street and Fifth Avenue North detours. Travelers can expect significant traffic and delays and should plan ahead and use alternate routes.
This work is weather-dependent and may be cancelled and rescheduled for later dates if inclement weather occurs.
