Ballard High School’s (BHS) Vocal Jazz group made an impressive showing at the Olympic College Jazz Classic on Nov. 30 in Bremerton, Wash. Vocal Jazz was praised for their mature tone, unison and section blend, and energetic performance.

In addition to the ensemble performance, Zoe Duarte and Elliot Bailey also worked onstage with acclaimed jazz vocalist Greta Matassa.

Bailey also earned an outstanding soloist award.

All of Ballard’s performing arts groups will perform on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Northgate Barnes & Noble store (401 N.E. Northgate Way, Suite 1100) as part of the store’s book fair. The event is a BHS tradition in which a percentage of all sales in the store (including the in-store Starbucks and café) and Internet sales for the week following the in-store book fair will benefit the BHS Performing Arts program.
