The music students at Ballard High School have much to sing about.
Members of Advanced Women’s Chorale, Concert Choir, Orchestra and Wind Ensemble traveled to San Francisco on April 10 to 13 for clinics at Stanford University and to sing at Golden Gate Park.
Ballard’s students also participated in the Solo and Ensemble Festival at Seattle Pacific University on Feb. 8, with one of the highest levels of participation of any school. They also received numerous superior and excellent ratings for their performances.
Special congratulations go to the school’s Brass Quintet, Percussion Ensemble, Women’s Chamber Choir, Men’s Quartet, tenor saxophonist Emerson Jordan, trombonist Dylan Riley, mezzo-Soprano Annie Gordon, alto Clara Manahan, soprano Meg Shepherd and baritone Michael Rager for winning their categories and advancing to the state competition in Ellensburg, Wash., on April 25.
Also on April 25, Ballard’s Jazz Band 1 will perform in Starbucks’ “Hot Java, Cool Jazz” event for the third consecutive year. The show will take place at the Paramount Theater on April 25, starting at 7 p.m.
The group submitted an audition CD of this year’s band playing three selections of choice. Only the top five jazz bands from the area are selected to play at this performance. Ballard will be joined by Bothell, Garfield, Mountlake Terrace and Roosevelt high schools.
